Explanations that do work
Your text brings up the idea that we as a society, prone to so much violence, are in a ‘culture of disregard’. We feel little to no regard for others, certainly no responsibility for others, and have instead created a culture of ‘me first.
This lack of regard for others within our society is only a few of the reasons why we experience violence. Other factors such as alcohol and drugs contribute immensely to the problems we face.
Globalization, technology, and urbanization are all issues that have changed many of our neighborhoods. Changed them into ghettos. People move out of an area and the out-migration is more powerful than the in-migration. The very structures which were built to educate, house, and become places of worship end up being abandoned. Some call this progress, others destruction.
My question to you is this: Have we become a ‘culture of disregard’? If so, what can we do within our own neighborhoods to change this? Is this a matter of attitude and behavior? If so, what can we do to change this?
