For this assignment, you will draw on your reading of Honky to respond to the following:
1. Briefly summarize the book. What are the major dimensions of inequality experienced by Conley during his childhood? What is responsible for the rather odd and dramatic shifts in social status experienced by his family over time? How does life change for the family with each transition?
2. Think about how lived experiences in Honky verify the existence of larger social structures that create and perpetuate inequalities. Describe how some of Conley’s experiences reflect the structural forces (e.g., media, government, education) highlighted in any four of your other lectures, readings, or movies this semester.
3. Respond to the book on a personal level. What did you get out of it? Did you enjoy it? If you were to write a book about your own experiences with social inequality, how would your story be different? Why?
The usual rules apply Typewritten, double-spaced, 2-3 pages long, well-organized, etc.
