Research paper
Part 3: Method: participants, materials, project design, informed consent, flyer:
1. Your research study could be an experiment, a correlational study, a naturalistic observation, or a case study. There is no page limit but a properly written method section will be at least a page long.
(Writer needs to let me know which research study is best to
do.)
2. Include the following parts:
a) Participants: who will take part in your research and how you are planning to select participants
b) Materials: describe what materials (measures) you will use to measure your variables
c) Procedure: describe step-by-step how you will collect the data
3. Appendix: the information that would go into appendices might include a consent form, a flyer for recruiting participants, actual measures, a background questionnaire
* On the next page I will describe step by step how I expect this paper to be done. It’s very important that everything is done the correct way with the guideline that is provided. (follow it carefully).*
Method
• Section with a heading
• Covers 3 areas:
• Participants:
• who participated in the study
• descriptive statistics: sample composition
• Measures: • what measures were used
• Procedure: • what procedure was used to carry out the study and analyze the results
a) Describing Participants:
Participants are described in the METHOD section.
• Number of participants
• Demographics relevant to study (table)
• Sampling strategy used
• Comparisons of similarity and diversity in the sample
• Response rate if known
• Quantitative: emphasize random selection
• Qualitative: describe reasoning used in purposive sampling
b) Materials ( measures)
QUALITATIVE- measures are usually less structured. (Describing measures) * for the measure I choose Qualitative measure*
• Discuss how interviews, focus groups, or fieldwork were collected and reasoning for choices
• May discuss the researcher’s position in relation to the field
• Appendix may include the questions used in the interview or the script used for a focus group for greater transparency
c) Procedure:
1. what procedure was used to carry out the study and analyze the results 2. describe step-by-step how you will collect the data
Appendix:
● the information that would go into appendices might include a consent form, a flyer for recruiting participants, actual measures, a background questionnaire
● May contain tables, photos, samples or artworks or measures
