Vulnerable Populations
For this assignment, students should select a vulnerable population of interest. Types of vulnerable populations may be the elderly (especially with Alzheimer’s), homeless (you could also select homeless families or homeless veterans), individuals with mental health disorders, substance abusers, the impoverished, and so forth. Remember that students should look at the group as a whole, not just an individual client. Please note, thinking about a population as vulnerable from a medical perspective is not the focus of this paper. Students are free to research various definitions of vulnerable populations in the literature, but in general think of a vulnerable population as one that is at risk for certain health problems or certain impacts from the COVID-19 pandemic and economic crisis and that a part of the vulnerability is due to this population being marginalized by society and others. Examples of appropriate populations for this paper include, but are not limited to, the homeless (children, families, men, women, or veterans), victims of domestic violence, victims of human trafficking, migrant farmworkers, immigrants and/or refugees, individuals with drug addiction, individuals with certain mental health challenges, individuals living in poverty, and individuals with Alzheimer’s disease.
