For each of the three cases below, identify the key experiences, behaviors, and feelings or emotions. Use the empathy formula from the reading to construct an empathic response.

Case 1:
“I met my first wife in high school, and we got married just after high school when she was three months pregnant. We got divorced when my older son was five years old, and I got together with my second wife about a year later. That marriage didn’t last long either, about six months, because she was a drug abuser and liked to hang at the bars. I’ve been married to my present wife for five years, but we were together for about two years before that, so she’s been around my kids for quite a while.”
