Outline/Prompts: Your paper should include two key sections.

A) Building off of Wang et al’s SHOWeD method, provide a personal reflection on your group’s Photovoice project, including your process and the outcome. Your reflection should include:
(i) What do YOU SEE as you examine the final Photovoice project as it was presented in class?
(ii) What is HAPPENING in the overall Photovoice?
(iii) How does your project relate to YOUR life?
(iv) Why does food insecurity exist at a State University?
(v) What can YOU DO about it?

B) At least one page that describes YOUR personal experience in this Photovoice process. You should include reflections on:

(i) What it was like for you to work on this topic in this group?
(ii) What specifically did you learn about YOURSELF from dialoguing with others about how this issue/problem/challenge affects you?
(iii) Has this experience contributed to your understanding of yourself as a civically engaged individual? If so, what?
(iv) Are there any limitations or concerns that you have about your participation in this process? Like what?

Writing tips:

• Try to include a catchy title that emphasizes your central thesis/argument.
• Try to grab the reader’s attention in the first line.
• Be clear about the argument you are making/the discussion you are presenting in your final essay and be sure it is linked to the issue/problem/challenge on which that you and your group focused and to which you sought to respond/to take action towards change.
• Take a position as you write (not just an opinion) that consists of facts put into well-informed content.
• Identify any counterarguments to the one you are taking, and refute them with facts and references from any outside sources.
• Avoid clichés, unsubstantiated generalizations, and vague wording.
• Use specific references and easy-to-understand data rather than abstraction.
• At the end, clearly restate your position and be sure to include the action(s) you propose that respond to the issue/problem/challenge towards change.
• End with a strong or thought-provoking line.
