Fitness to Practice includes possessing appropriate nursing knowledge and psychomotor skills for the
clinical area, and being mentally and physically healthy.

Read this entire workbook to see what you will be assessing.

You will be tracking your sleep for seven days, using tools to evaluate how well prepared you are for clinical practice, and completing short questionnaires about your emotional health.

Spend 15 – 30 minutes each day over the course of a week to do the assessments and answer the

Physical fitness in fitness to practice includes strength, and addressing pain, acute and chronic illness, or
other symptoms that may affect nursing practice and your ability to learn in the BN program.
Lack of quality sleep can affect mood and the ability to make good decisions. It has also been found that
lack of sleep negatively affects student grades.

Answer the following questions:

1. List any physical factors or symptoms that might affect your ability to practice safely and
competently and/or may affect your learning.
2. If you have identified any physical factors that might affect your practice and/or learning, what
resources or strategies can you use to address the issue(s)?
