Week 3 – Assignment: Creating a Treatment Plan using the SFBT
After reading the assigned material and the case vignette, write a treatment plan on how you apply the SFBT principles to the case vignette. Include your short-term and long-term goals and specific interventions based on the SFBT.
A couple comes in for couples counseling with a presenting problem of an affair. The lesbian couple has been living together for 6 of the 7 years. Annie is a nurse and Shelby is a business owner of a successful travel agency. Together, they have one child, who recently turned 12 years old. Annie and Shelby have come in for therapy because Annie recently discovered that Shelby has been having an affair with their next-door neighbor. Annie is in shock and angry, while Shelby is devastated and defensive. They both want to try and work on saving their relationship, but Annie doesn’t know how to rebuild the trust and how to move forward. Shelby is dealing with the loss of their affair partner and they are both unsure about what to do about their neighbor. Shelby has said that she has stopped the affair; however, Annie doesn’t know if she can believe Shelby because she works from home and so does the neighbor. Annie works three 12 hour shifts at her job. They both are concerned about how their daughter is responding to the relationship’s conflict. In the meantime, Shelby has moved out of the house temporarily, and the couple is unsure what to tell their child. Your response should demonstrate your understanding of SF therapy with couples and any new thoughts relating to this topic.
