1. Summary
Summarize the findings of the paper without using any jargon. Say it plainly, in your language.
Include a brief summary of the rationale, what they were trying to find, what they found, and why it’s important. Write it as a cohesive, short paragraph of a maximum of 250 words
2. Interpret the key results
You’ve outlined the main results of the study. Now find the figure in the study that best
demonstrates the main findings. Notice that most figures have multiple panels in them. Each
panel represents an individual experiment and these panels are grouped together into a single
figure because they fit together – as in, they are a series of experiments that make one larger point which is usually stated as the figure’s title. For this section, go through each panel of the figure and explain in your own words in approximately 1-2 sentences what that specific panel of the figure demonstrates.
3. Significance and Drawbacks
Read the discussion. Briefly summarize how the authors have contributed to the field (the
findings’ significance) and outline any limitations or concerns that the authors highlight.
